HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (Sean Delancey) -- A dog, trying to protect his owners from a break-in, was attacked with a baseball bat.
As police look for the suspects, the family is still looking for the wounded dog, and holding out hope that he will be found safe and that police bring the attackers to justice.
"I heard him say, ‘F that pitbull,’ and I heard it crack," Brianna Caudelle said, recounting the incident.
Blood stained floors are all that remain after police said two men broke into a home on Monroe Avenue Thursday night, carrying baseball bats.
Caudelle said the men were looking for someone, and when they couldn't find him, they beat her dog Bo over the head.
"He's gone,” she said. “The fence was open, and he's gone."
Caudelle said she looked for Bo all day long on Friday.
Desire Huff, with Pitiful Paws Rescue, saved Bo from euthanasia when he was a puppy.
She said the pitbull had just about every parasite in the book, a skin infection and kennel cough when they rescued him.
She said he is a fighter, but he may to need get some serious help.
"We've already told them we'd pay for veterinary costs if he is injured and does need help,” she said.
Caudelle said she still has hope.
"I just want everyone to try to find him as soon as possible, so I can get him to the vet and make sure he's OK,” she said. “I'm scared to death that he's run off somewhere and died."
Bo is a gray pit bull with a camouflage collar. Anyone who spots him is asked to call animal control as soon as possible.
No arrests have been made in the home break-in. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
