CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Katy Brown) -- Police have narrowed in on one man accused of a string of car break-ins in both South Hills and South Charleston.

They man they named is Michael Bevis.

"He is wanted for using credit cards that were stolen during car break-ins," Lt. Steve Cooper, with Charleston, Police said.

Police said tens of thousands of dollars worth of goods were stolen out of cars in the South Hills area earlier this month.

South Charleston police also said Bevis is responsible for a string of break-ins on Tuesday in their city.

More than 20 cars and families falling victim to the two-city crime spree. Police said money, several purses, electronics, and credit cards swiped from their cars and even two vehicles were stolen.

"He hits the jackpot sometimes. And sometimes he'll just take loose change out of your car," Cooper said. "But the fact remains, you've got Michael Bevis rummaging through your vehicle."

Warrants have been issued for Bevis by Charleston and South Charleston Police on fraudulent use charges.

Back in April, when we interviewed Bevis about recent shootings and murders in Charleston, he seemed to be oblivious to why anyone would want to commit a crime.

"That's really disturbing, I mean especially in a nice town like Charleston," he said.

But Cooper said Bevis is a career criminal and he and others like him know exactly what they're doing.

"These guys, their profession, they're basically scoring drugs from proceeds from stealing from cars," Cooper said. "Most of these suspects have never worked a day in their life. And what they would rather do is steal from you when you leave your car open."

If you see Bevis, you are asked to call police.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Jeff Morris) -- Charleston police are holding a news conference Wednesday afternoon to discuss developments in the investigation of South Hills burglaries and the breaking and entering of vehicles.

Police said they have obtained a warrant for Micheal Bevis of Charleston.

Lt. Steve Cooper, chief of detectives for the Charleston Police Department, is holding a news conference at 3 p.m. to discuss the case.
