MARMET, W.Va. (Katelyn Sykes) -- The city of Marmet's Public Works Director, Johnny Walker, said he plans on filing a civil lawsuit against the city after someone sent the IRS personal and false information about him.

Walker said he believes someone has a vendetta against him after he was hired as the Public Works Director in April, 2013.

"There's a couple of people that have a personal vendetta against me because there was a relative of one of them that they wanted to have this job from day one and the council had the power to overrule it," he said. "I would love to quit having people try to cut my throat, stab me in the back. Just let me do my job that I promised I would do."

Walker said part of this issue also stems from the legality of his contract he signed when he took on this new role. He said that was cleared up by the IRS, but said he was still fired by Mayor Bill Pauley on Friday, May 16.

At Marmet's special city council meeting on Tuesday, Pauley said he didn't fire Walker. Walker was back on the job, Wednesday.

As for who sent the information to the IRS, West Virginia State Police were called to the meeting to search city computers. Marmet City Attorney Richie Robb, said the mayor admitted to sending a cover letter to the IRS and after questioning, troopers found out who was behind the letter. That person hasn't been identified.

Eyewitness News reached out to Mayor Pauley several times on Wednesday but haven't heard back.

MARMET, W.Va. (Katelyn Sykes) -- An investigation is under way in Marmet, and city council members are demanding answers after someone sent a letter to the IRS giving false information about Street Department Director Johnny Walker.

This was brought to light during a special city council meeting Tuesday night that got heated.

Marmet City Council officials want to know how that information about Walker was obtained and who sent it to the IRS. Officials are alleging it was an invasion of Walker's privacy and that information sent to the IRS wasn't true.

Marmet City Attorney Richie Robb said Marmet Mayor Bill Pauley admitted to sending a cover letter to the IRS. Information about what was in that letter hasn't been released.

Council members wanted to learn more and thought they could find it on Pauley's computer. They called the West Virginia State Police to their meeting, Tuesday night, and through questioning, troopers learned who sent the IRS the information. Robb said that person's name isn't being released.

Robb said he isn't sure if criminal charges will be filed in the future but said a civil case is possible.

Attempts to reach several city council members and Walker for comment Wednesday morning were unsuccessful.
