CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Chris Williams) -- Hundreds of people were on the capital grounds this weekend for the Vandalia gathering.
Cynthia Herndon and her husband drove about an hour to Charleston. It's a trip they don't make often, so they take in as much as they can during their visit.

"I got pulled pork barbeque, lots of good music CDs," said Cynthia Herndon.

The busy weekend kicked off on Thursday, when athletes from all over the mountain state came to UC Stadium for the high school state track meet. A lot of those people need places to stay.
Every single room at the Four-Point by Sheraton was booked this weekend.

"It's nice to see our guests being able to get out, and enjoy the outside weather, and some of the great activities that the city has to offer this time of year," said Aaron Scott, who works the front desk at the Four-Point in Charleston.

Friday night was the first "Live on the Levee" for the summer. Before people took in the music, they hit downtown Charleston for dinner, which means more money for local restaurants.

"It's always nice when there is an influx of people from out of town, it does increase business, and hopefully revenue," said Adelphia General Manager Tracy Abdalla.

Abdalla hopes this weekend is going to be a jumping off point for the rest of the summer.
And Cynthia Herndon says she had such a good time this weekend, she is already looking forward to her next trip back to the capital city.

"After a long winter we had, it's nice to see Mr. Sunshine," added Herndon.
