HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (Kallie Cart) -- A national movement is hoping to encourage commuters to ride their bicycle to work.

In Huntington, the event was dampened by the rainy weather Friday, but there are still some cyclists who have decided to ride to work each day.

The owner of Jeff's Bike Shop said he frequently rides his bike to work, and that there are many benefits to taking up the practice.

He said Huntington is the perfect place to start biking to work.

"It’s easy to find a parking spot, of course,” Jeff Joy said. “You don't have to fight or pay for a meter. You typically can park your bike downtown where you work, or where you're going to. If you're going downtown to shop, it’s pretty easy to do that. You can get around quicker than you think you can on a bike, especially downtown"

The number of Americans who biked to work increased about 60 percent from 2008 to 2012.
