SPENCER, W.Va. (Chris Williams) -- When James Holbert of Roane County looked up at the sky Tuesday night, he said he knew what was coming.

"So much lightning going on. I figured it would take transformers out. It went out, so we shut everything down and went on to bed," he said.

Holbert was one of more than 2,000 people to lose power in Roane County. He has a generator, which he bought after the 2012 derecho. Problem is, he has to use it for two homes, his and his daughter's

"This is one here will run for another probably 40 minutes. Then I’ll shut it down, gather everything up, take it back home, and hook mine back up," Holbert said.

At the height of the storms last night, more than 6,000 people were without power. Many don't own a generator, which made for an uncomfortable night.

"It got around 78 degrees, it was kind of uncomfortable in the house. We had to keep the windows down," Roane County resident Garrett Burgess said.

Burgess was without power for about 14 hours, but his house was one of the first to get service restored. He said his air conditioner came back on around 11 a.m. Wednesday.

"It's heaven. I was finally able to get back and relax a little bit without sweating your butt off," Burgess said.

With the potential for more severe weather on the way Wednesday night, Holbert is prepared for another outage.

"We keep bottled water, and stuff on hand, lights," he said.
