MARMET, W.Va. (Katy Brown) --A deadly car accident on Wednesday took the life of a young man. Family and friends were in shock.

"Regardless of any problems that he had, he always kept a smile on his face," Sydney Clark said.

But now that's not an easy task for friends and family of Alex Neophytou. Friends said the 21-year-old was the driver of the maroon Pontiac involved in the deadly accident Wednesday morning.

"It just sucks this had to happen to him," Clark said. "I had just seen him yesterday driving down Washington Street."

Police said the accident happened around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, along W.Va. Route 61 between Charleston and Marmet.

Witnesses told police the Pontiac crossed the center line, hitting the grey Jeep wrangler head on.

Police said Neophytou wasn't wearing his seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Friends of Neophytou took to social media posting their condolences and memories. Clark described Neophytou as a loving, caring, and giving person.

"My brother didn't get anything for his birthday. Alex, being fortunate, he took a gold chain right off his necklace and he gave it to my brother," Clark said.
"He would give someone his last if he had it."

He had a kind heart that his Adelphia work family said was accompanied by a lot of laughing.

"You know everybody always laughed around Alex. Just had one of those personalities that sort of lit up a room," Tracy Abdallah at Adelphia said.

Abdallah said Neophytou was a cook at Adelphia Sports Bar and Grill at one point. And though he wasn't currently working there, Neophytou left his mark.

"He had an accident in the kitchen one time and he cut his finger. From that point on we called him Stumpy," Abdallah said.

He said that was a moment everyone was able to laugh about together.

But now, with heavy hearts, friends and family are saying goodbye to a life taken far too soon. No word on any arrangements for Neophytou was available.

Two others were injured in that accident, the driver of the Jeep and a passenger with Neophytou. Both were taken to the hospital.

Names are being withheld while family members are notified of the event.
