CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Katelyn Sykes) -- The Secretary of State's Office is making sure everything runs smoothy as West Virginia's primary election gets underway, Tuesday.

"I do not tolerate anyone who would try to chip away at our democracy, our election process," said Natalie Tennant, Secretary of State.

It's a strong message Tennant wants to get across because it's happened in the past. Three elected Lincoln County officials were sentenced on federal charges related to an absentee voting scheme during the 2010 primary election. Tennant's office worked on that case for months and vow that behavior isn't tolerated.

"It doesn't matter to which party you belong, where you are in the state or what office you might hold," she said. "If you try to manipulate our election process we will come after you."

Dozens of liasons from the Secretary of State's office will be across the state, visiting precincts and helping county officials to make sure things run smoothly and that your rights as a voter aren't violated.

"If you're standing in line and the polls close at 7:30, you still have a right to vote," she said. "You have a right to skip any race on the ballot if you choose. You have the right to ask for assistance if you're a person with disabilities. You have a right to cast your ballot in a non-disruptive atmosphere."

Rights all voters have and are encouraged to voice as election day gets underway across West Virginia.

Polls will be open until 7:30 p.m.
