CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Bob Aaron) -- More of the results will be unveiled on Monday from a scientific survey of Kanawha County residents on the impact of the water crisis.

The numbers from the survey conducted by the Kanawha Charleston Health Department will be released at 5 p.m. during a news conference at the University of Charleston’s Riggleman Hall. The presentation is open to public and expected to take 90 minutes.

Last week, part of those results were released and showed almost a third of Kanawha County households reported some health impact from a January chemical spill into the water system.

It also showed about a third of county residents gave an “F” to state officials on the truthfulness of their handling of the incident and almost 40 percent gave a failing grade to West Virginia American Water for its honesty in dealing with the spill. Nearly 10,000 gallons of Crude MCHM and a smaller amount of two other chemicals spilled at Freedom Industries in January. It contaminated water in nine counties, but the bulk of the impact is in Kanawha.

Charleston Mayor Danny Jones is slated as on one of the speakers when survey results are presented on Monday. He fears the most lasting impact will be on Charleston's hotel and tourism business.

“What it's going to hurt are these entities because of the perception that there's something wrong with the water here and that's going to be the challenge that we have to reach the non-detect point,” Jones said. “It was devastating. It has been devastating. We don't know how long that will last. "

More than 500 people answered the 70-plus question survey.
