CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Taisha Walker) – A magistrate refused to lower the bond for two men charged with shooting a Charleston bouncer a dozen times last month and bound their cases over to a grand jury.

Tasheem Collins and George Sawyer appeared in Kanawha County Magistrate Court Tuesday for their preliminary hearing. They are accused of shooting Jimmy Beasley on Capitol Street last month.

During the hearing, the detailed account from two witnesses proved to be too much for Beasley’s family. Beasley's mother rushed out of the courtroom while his wife broke out in tears as one witness talked about the surveillance video and seeing Beasley get shot and fall to the ground.

Sawyer, the one who police said jumped into the river to avoid officers the night of the shooting, waived his right to the hearing. But his brother, Collins, sat through the hearing, often times shaking his head in disagreement as the witnesses testified.

Donna Beasley, Jimmy's wife, said although it was hard to leave her husband's hospital bed, it was important for her to be in court.

"It's hard to hear what happened but I had to be here," said Donna. "But I had to be here. They need to see me and I'll be here everyday."

Although Sawyer waived his right to a preliminary hearing, he did say don't believe everything you hear as he was being escorted out the courtroom.

The magistrate sent their cases to the grand jury and denied a request to reduce Collins’ and Sawyer's bond from $50,000 to $40,000.

Donna said her husband is moving around more but still has trouble communicating verbally.
