Kanawha Deputies Say Woman Fell Asleep At Wheel Before Striking Porch With Vehicle

RIVERSIDE, W.Va. (Jeff Morris) -- Kanawha County deputies said a car struck the porch of a home in the Riverside area after the driver fell asleep at the wheel and the vehicle went over an embankment.

The accident happened about 11 a.m. Tuesday on East DuPont Avenue, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said Rhonda LIvesay, 56, of Boomer was driving west on the roadway when she fell asleep, her car left the road, traveled over an embankment and hit the porch structure of a house.

Livesay was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

No one was home at the time of the accident.

The accident remains under investigation.

One person from the vehicle was transported to the hospital following the 11 a.m. Tuesday wreck. No one in the home sustained any injuries.

E. Dupont Avenue at Britt Hollow remained closed Tuesday morning after the 11 a.m. accident, an emergency dispatcher said.




RIVERSIDE, W.Va. (Jeff Morris) -- Metro 911 said rescue crews were able to free a person from a vehicle that apparently plunged over a hill in the Riverside area and went into a home.

It was unclear whether the person had been transported to the hospital. An emergency dispatcher said both lanes of East Dupont Avenue near Britt Hollow remained shut down after the 11 a.m. Tuesday accident.

The crash occurred about 11 a.m., an emergency dispatcher said. There was confirmed entrapment at the scene, but it was unclear how many people were in the vehicle.

Kanawha County deputies and the Glasgow Volunteer Fire Department were responding.
