CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Leslie Rubin, Jeff Morris) – Court documents said a Detroit man who is being charged with a West Side murder was tracked down after a police chase and was identified by a witness.

Mark Anthony Gaddy, 23, was arraigned Thursday in Kanawha County Magistrate Court. He is accused of shooting Tymel McKinney, 19, multiple times on Wednesday night on Sixth Street while he was sitting on the front porch of his residence.

Police said a juvenile also is being charged in connection with the murder.

Cpl. James Wilson was on routine patrol when he heard the shots ring out, according to a criminal complaint filed in magistrate court. Wilson saw two males running down the center of the road traveling east in the 700 block of Sixth Street and get into a car and flee the scene at a high rate of speed. The officer gave chase in his cruiser for several blocks, and the suspects’ vehicle finally came to a stop at the intersection of Lovell Drive and Glenwood Avenue. The complaint said a dash cam video on the officer’s cruiser captured Gaddy exiting out of the driver’s door of the stopped vehicle.

Police said a K-9 unit tracked the men who fled and led officers to the rear of a residence on Lovell Drive where Gaddy was found and identified.

Meanwhile, a homeowner in the 700 block of Sixth Street was alarmed by the gunshots and looked out her window to see a black male running down the street. The homeowner told police she saw the black male throw something down in the yard and believed it to be a firearm. The woman went outside and confirmed it was a firearm. Charleston detectives recovered a .40-caliber Glock from the homeowner’s yard and confirmed it was the same caliber round used in the shooting of the victim.

The complaint said a Charleston detective interviewed a witness who was sitting beside the victim on the porch during the shooting. The witness identified Gaddy as one of the males who participated in the shooting, the complaint said.

McKinney was a former Capital High School student. Principal Clinton Giles says McKinney dropped out of school several months ago.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Leslie Rubin) -- A second person, a juvenile, is being charged in connection with the murder of a young Charleston man gunned down on the West Side.

The juvenile is the second person being charged in the case. Police said Mark Anthony Gaddy, 23, of Detroit also has been charged in the murder. Tymel McKinney, 19, was shot multiple times Wednesday night while he was sitting on his front porch on Sixth Street.
