CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Katelyn Sykes, Leslie Rubin) -- Charleston police sad a young man shot on the West Side of Charleston on Wednesday night has died from his injuries.

Tymel McKinney, 18, has died, Charleston Police Lt. Steve Cooper said.

Witness Deon Henning said he was sitting on the front porch of a home on 6th Street with two other people when two masked men came up to them and started firing.

"These two dudes just came up, it was just messed up and they started laying shots off at us," he said.

"I covered one of my other friends up, me and my dude AP was holding each other like this and then we turned around and looked."

Henning said at least 14 shots were fired. He wasn't hurt, but McKinney was shot in the face.

Charleston police arrested Mark Anthony Gaddy, 23, and a juvenile on first degree murder charges. Both were seen running away from the scene after the shots were fired.

"Mr. Gaddy has done time in the past," said Lt. Steve Cooper, Charleston Police Department. "He's also done time for home invasions in the Detroit area so he's got a history of very violent behavior."

Gaddy didn't have anything to say to reporters when he was brought to Magistrate court Thursday morning. He is in the South Central Regional Jail without bond.

Henning said he doesn't know why his friend was targeted and said McKinney was a good person, a new father and kept to himself.

"There was no reason to kill the man," he said. "I mean he was only 18 years old. Don't nobody deserve that. I lost my father when I was nine years old. Don't nobody deserve that."

Now Henning and police are left asking why, while keeping the violence out of the west side.

"Tymel rest in peace man," he said. "I really wish I could have been there more for you man. I really do."

Police haven't released a motive. They said Gaddy was at the scene of Wednesday afternoon's shooting on the west side.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Katelyn Sykes) -- A witness and friend said a teenager shot on Wednesday night has died.

Deon Henning said he was sitting on the front porch of a home on 6th Street with two other people when two masked men came up to them and started firing. Henning said at least 14 shots were fired. He wasn't hurt, but his friend was shot in the face. They took him to the hospital but Henning said the 18-year old didn't survive.

Police haven't confirmed the condition of the victim and also haven't released his identity. Henning identified the victim but Eyewitness News is withholding that information until police confirm it.

Police also haven't said if this shooting is connected to an earlier shooting on the west side, Wednesday.

Detectives spent much of Thursday morning processing the scene and collecting evidence. They also obtained a search warrant to search the 6th Street home and a couple of cars.

Police detained three men late Wednesday night but haven't said if they were charged with anything.
