HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- (Dave Benton) Huntington's Police Department is getting a little bigger. A swearing-in ceremony took place Monday afternoon at City Council Chambers.

Sean Brinegar and Jordan McClellan were sworn in Monday afternoon as new Huntington Police Officers.

21 year veteran of the force, Mike Hudson was promoted to Corporal and says watching the young men take the oath, brings back memories. Hudson said, "You almost feel the emotions as a new hire and going into the unknown it's exciting. I'm happy for them."

Brinegar, who is from Salt Rock said, "It's a very very good day, something I've always wanted to do."

McClellan is a Huntington native and said, "It's a little emotional, but a day I'll remember for a very long time. I hope to look back on it when I retire."

Cpl. Hudson has this advice for the new hires. "Listen and observe. The experience officers who are out here, the academy gives you a nice base, but until you get out here and start working with other officers, you really don't learn how to be a police officer until you get to that point."

The new officers will head to the police academy on Monday for 16 weeks, then will eventually be patrol officers.
