GLASGOW, W.Va. (Jeff Morris, Jessica Sampson, Elizabeth Noreika) -- The Federal Aviation Administration tells us the plane that went down is a Piper PA 32.
It took off from Akron Fulton International Airport and was headed to Spartanburg Downtown Memorial Airport in South Carolina.

Two people were on board.

The plane dropped off the radar suddenly, eventually crashing into a mountainside between Kelley's Creek and Hughes Creek right across the river from Pratt Elementary.
2 people are confirmed dead and we are told the coroner is on scene and has given the go ahead to remove those bodies from the wreckage.

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office will remain on scene throughout the evening for security purposes and the FAA is expected to be on the ground tomorrow morning.

Emergency crews located the site of the plane crash around 7 o'clock Friday evening via helicopter. The site is between Hughes and Kelley's Creek. We are told 2 people are dead in that crash and there could possibly be more fatalities.

The search continued Friday evening in Eastern Kanawha County for a small plane that reportedly crashed in the Hughes Creek area.

Witnesses reported seeing a plane go down into the mountain, and the search was centered on an area between Hughes Creek and Kellys Creek.

Meanwhile, the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport said the Indianapolis Control Center was working a flight of a Piper Saratoga that was on its way to Spartanburg, S.C. The plane went off the scope of the radar Friday afternoon southeast of Charleston and the control center lost contact. It has not been confirmed whether this is the plane that reportedly went down.

GLASGOW, W.Va. (Jeff Morris, Jessica Sampson) -- State Police were putting a helicopter in the air Friday to search for a plane that reportedly went down in the Hughes Creek area of Eastern Kanawha County.

C.W. Sigman, emergency coordinator for Kanawha County, said the plane was a Piper Saratoga that was being detoured due to weather when a control tower in Indianapolis lost contact and the plane apparently crashed into the mountain. The plane can hold six to seven people.

The staging area for emergency crews was on Big Mountain Road in the Kellys Creek area. The plane apparently went down somewhere between Kellys Creek and Hughes Creek.
