CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Jeff Morris) – An East Bank man faces a child neglect charge after a deputy said he tried to run his girlfriend’s vehicle off the road with his pickup truck while their 5-year-old son was a passenger in his vehicle.

David Robert McGuire, 23, was arrested Thursday on a child neglect creating risk of injury charge, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.

The complaint said the girlfriend told a deputy that she was driving on her way home to East Bank on Route 61 near Kmart when she received a phone call from McGuire who was upset and accused her of seeing another male. She told the officer that she passed McGuire heading north on Route 61 in and she was heading south. McGuire pulled in front of the woman in the straight stretch of the roadway before Turnpike Ford and began kicking her vehicle, yelling for her to get out, the complaint said.

While she was en route to a Sunoco station, McGuire passed his girlfriend’s vehicle on Route 61, swerved toward her and attempted to run her off the road, the complaint said. He then allegedly stopped in front of her before the city limits of Marmet, got out of his vehicle and tried to remove her from the car. She pulled into the gas station along with McGuire and he blocked her in the parking lot, screaming at her, the complaint said. The complaint said the woman’s mother and fiancé arrived and the finance stepped in between to protect the woman until law enforcement arrived.
