EVANS, W.Va. (Katelyn Sykes) -- Fire officials said a brush fire that burned 20 to 25 acres in Jackson County started after a mobile home burned to the ground on Friday.

911 officials received about 3 a.m. that a mobile home was on fire off Donohue Road in Evans. When fire crews arrived at the scene, gusty winds caused the fire to spread to surrounding brush. At least 20 acres surrounding the mobile home burned. Deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department went door to door warning people living nearby because they were worried the fire could spread to their homes.

Firefighters said the fire started by an electrical malfunction at the mobile home. An extension cord stretching several feet from a power pole to the home could be to blame, they said. No one was home at the time of the fire.

About 15 firefighters from five departments responded to the scene. No other structures were damaged and no one was injured.

EVANS, W.Va. (Katelyn Sykes) -- Several fire departments are responding to a brush fire just outside of Evans.

Jackson County 911 dispatchers said it started on Donahue Road about 3:30 a.m. and is spreading fast.

It's already about two acres in size.

Jackson County sheriff's deputies are currently alerting residents in the area because some homes are in the fire's path.

So far, fire departments from Ripley, Silverton and Cottageville are responding.
