WINFIELD, W.Va. (Chris Williams) -- John Cobb was in Court Thursday afternoon to face one count of animal cruelty.

"The court does find you guilty Mr. Cobb," said Magistrate Linda Hunt.

The Putnam County Humane Society took the animals from Cobb last November after a neighbor called and said the horses looked ill.

"They were of decreased bodyweight," said Putnam County Humane Officer Greg Sydenstryker.

Dr. Clare mason has been around horses her entire life, and says the horses on Cobb's property looked absolutely awful.

"He had a body condition score of one, which is the lowest score. His weight tape came out at about 754 pounds. His weight should have been over 1,000 pounds," said Veterinarian Dr. Claire Mason

Cobb was sentenced to 6 months suspended with two years probation. Under probation he can't have any alcohol or drugs, and also can't own animals for 2 years.

"On this picture here, you can clearly see that the spine is showing, and you should not see a spine," added Mason.

Since the horses have been taken from his property, the Putnam County animal shelter and two other people have been looking after the animals. They say all of the horses have gained weight.
