SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Leslie Rubin, Katelyn Sykes, Jeff Morris) -- A 4-year-girl who was dropped off at Thomas Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound is described as in good condition and apparently was shot in the arm.

Hospital workers called 911 to report the incident about 10 a.m. Monday. It launched response from multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office, South Charleston Police and the Charleston Police Department.

Deputies said the girl's father took her to the hospital in a truck, and the girl's mother got out of the truck and stayed with the child at the hospital. There were two other kids in the truck. Deputies said the girl's father is being questioned and has been detained, but he has not been charged. He was sitting in the back of a cruiser at Dalewood Trailer Park in Cross Lanes, where deputies were conducting an investigation. The trailer park is where deputies located a pickup truck that they believe was used to drop the girl off at the hospital.

It was unclear initially if the shooting happened at the Cross Lanes trailer park or in the Route 21 area of Sissonville, but deputies seemed to think now that it happened in Cross Lanes.

"From everything we have gathered, this is our crime scene," Deputy J.A. Ratliff said.

Deputies were obtaining a search warrant so they could search the father's trailer and three vehicles on the property.

CROSS LANES, W.Va. (Katelyn Sykes, Jeff Morris) -- Deputies have detained and were questioning the father of a 4-year-old girl who was dropped off at Thomas Memorial Hospital on Monday morning with a gunshot wound.

The girl was dropped off at Thomas at about 10:20 a.m., Metro 911 said. Deputies stopped a red pickup truck in the Dalewood, Hurley drive area of Cross Lanes that they believe may have been the vehicle that left the girl at the hospital. The truck was at the Dalewood Trailer Park, and deputies were questioning the father, who they said was not being very cooperative.

There was initial confusion about where the shooting may have happened. It was unclear whether it was in the Route 21 area of Sissonville or the Cross Lanes location.

Deputies were going door to door at the Cross Lanes trailer park, talking to neighbors. They were seeking a search warrant to search the father's trailer and three vehicles located on the property.
