HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (Sean Delancey, Dan Matics) -- One man is fighting for his life after police said a fight on Huntington's West End on Sunday quickly got out of hand.
Anthony J. Gaston, 22, was arrested in connection with the shooting.
The victim was shot and is facing potentially life-threatening injuries at an area hospital.
Police said the shooting took place late in the afternoon on the 1700 block of Monroe Avenue.
It was like a story taken right out of a movie, complete with car chases and gunfire. It left lone man in the hospital, another in police custody and a community afraid to leave their houses.
Yellow crime scene tape surrounded the neighborhood on Huntington's West End, Before police arrived, one woman living in the area jumped into action when she heard gunshots.
"I actually got blood on me because I got the girl in the car and was holding onto her because she was screaming," Jamie, a neighbor, said.
People in the neighborhood were pretty shaken up from it all.
One man was seriously injured after being hit by bullets, and his girlfriend deeply distraught.
"She was trying to lie on top of the man who got shot, so I was holding onto her because it was her boyfriend," he said.
Neighbors said two cars were chasing each other around the block at speeds reaching 50 mph. Then, they said Gaston stopped, got out of his car and shot the other male.
It was a sight that people who have lived in the area for two decades said aren't they used to experiencing.
"It's really scary because I have grandkids that play right here where I'm standing,” neighbor Melissa Owens said. “This is where those cars were chasing each other."
Police arrested a suspect soon after the shooting just a few blocks away. Police took him to the station for questioning.
Even with that person in custody, neighbors said they still don't feel safe.
"It was scary,” one said. “I've never seen anything like it before."

Police said the shooting in the 1700 block of Monroe Avenue in Huntington’s West End about 4 p.m., resulted due to an argument between two males.
The victim was taken to the hospital. The suspect was caught by police a few blocks away and was being processed at police headquarters.
