HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (Darrah Wilcox) -- The old post office lot on Norway Avenue that's been vacant for several years is getting new life. Right now, crews are tearing down the old building and will soon start work on a new Dollar General to fill the spot.

"This property had been sitting vacant for some time, and to go in and put something very productive and pleasing to the eye, in the area, because the area had started to run down, I think it certainly benefits the neighborhood but it certainly benefits the entire city," Huntington Mayor Steve Williams said.

Neighbors in the area say it's been a long time coming, and they're happy to see some positive change happening near them.

"It's great to see improvements happening, because everything around it is so nice, and that area was so rundown. It was a little safety concern actually. So it's good to see improvements happening," Adam Davis said.

Robert Cooper said, "It's exciting. I'm happy to see it torn down and have the Dollar General over there."

The business is expected to open sometime this summer.
