CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Leslie Rubin) -- Charleston Police say seven people were arrested after a raid at a west side bar Tuesday night.

The raid happened around 9:00 p.m. at Shaars Bar.

Lt. Shawn Williams with the Charleston Police Department says the charges range from people having outstanding warrants, to simple possession, to disorderly conduct.

Police say the raid was prompted by neighborhood complaints. They also say several key players in a string of recent west side shootings had ties to the bar.

Police say they are relying heavily on community involvement as they work to crack down on west side violence and crime.

"These complaints came in through the local city councilmen and the mayor's office. They're calling in and saying 'we've had enough." That's what we want. We can't do it without a partnership with the community and that's what this is a prime example of tonight," Williams said.

Williams says the information from tonight's raid will be forwarded to the ABC and mayor's office to determine if further action needs to be taken against the bar.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Leslie Rubin, Elizabeth Noreika) Charleston Police say they are in the process of a raid at a west side bar. It's taking place at Shaars Bar on Central Avenue.

Police say, so far, there have been six arrests but they anticipate more.

They say they received numerous nuisance complaints, which prompted their response.

Police say they want to send a strong message, especially after all the recent violence on the west side, that this sort of behavior isn't going to be tolerated.

Police tell Eyewitness News most of the arrests tonight are drug related and that marijuana was found inside that bar. Charleston Police say it's all about taking back the neighborhood, and that's what they intend to do.
