DUNBAR. (Katy Brown) -- Any time you walk into a store that sells tobacco and/or alcohol you always see the "We Card" sign.
But does everyone adhere to that law?
After getting complaints of local convenience stores selling to people underage, the Dunbar Police Department held a tobacco and alcohol sting on Saturday.
Police visited three businesses. One minor went after the alcohol, while the second one went for the tobacco.
"A female operative that we have here was denied at two different stores," Lt. Scott Elliott, with Dunbar police, said.
When the female entered one Go-Mart, the clerk asked for the ID and saw the minor was not 21-years-old.
But at another Go-Mart, a clerk took her ID. When the clerk couldn't find the ID's expiration date, police said another clerk at the counter said, "This girl has the God given right to get drunk. You don't know what's going on in her life. She could be one drink away from eternal happiness."
Elliott said they had one individual who was able to go into the store and purchase tobacco products with no issues whatsoever."
The minor buying tobacco only had his ID checked at one store, police said.
Police cited two stores for selling to minors. But one store, the Dunbar Convenience Mart, passed the test.
The clerk at the counter of Dunbar Convenience scanned the female minor's ID. When the machine didn't accept the card, a second clerk checked the physical card.
"Turns 21 on [May 11, 2014]," said the clerk. "She's not 21 yet."
Dunbar Police are now hoping this sting sends a message to all convenience stores throughout the area.
"If you're going to sell to underage kids, then we're going to come and get you," Elliott said.
The next step for the individuals cited is a court date in Dunbar City Court.
Police plan to hold more stings throughout the year.
