CRUM, W. Va. (Sean DeLancey) - Crum Elementary is under heat as the fifth grade class' WESTEST results have been thrown out.

The results were scrapped because of erasure marks on multiple bubble sheets changing wrong answers to correct ones.

Parents in the area are stunned, and said the blame shouldn't fall back upon the teachers.

Stephanie Lucas has two kids in Crum Elementary.

"I have a really hard time believing it," she said. "Both of my kids went to school to Crum, I went to school at Crum, my mother and Grandmother went to school at Crum."

The State Board of Education raised a red flag after discovering the erasure marks, and hired a third party firm to investigate.

Wayne county School Board Communications Coordinator Bill Rosenberger said the investigation returned enough evidence to throw out the test results.

Lucas chalks it all up to good preparation by teachers and good test practices by students.

"They always teach the kids to go back, read over, and make as many corrections as you need," she said.

The State Board of Education demoted Crum Elementary from a Success School as a result of the investigation, citing "Invalid Test Practices" as their reason.

"There's such a small number that created the issue that there's no reason that school shouldn't look at itself as a Success School," Rosenberger said.

Rosenberger said all West Virginia schools will be taking the WESTEST online this year.

He said online test taking will make this a controversy of the past.
