KENOVA, W.Va. (Dave Benton)-- A Wayne County city is making the push for a new visitors center along Interstate 64 in the hopes of bringing an economic boost to the area.

The city of Kenova is the gateway to the Mountain State for eastbound travelers. Kenova Mayor Ric Griffith said 10 million people pass Exit 1 every year and is hoping to get key players involved in the new project to build a visitors center. Griffith said it would help Wayne County economically, but it also would be a boost to neighboring Cabell County.

"It's important to the people of Kenova. It's important to the people south and east of us. It's important for people passing through to get a sense of what's here," Griffith said.

Jamie Stoner is the manager at Gino's Pizza in Kenova and says, "With a Visitor Center you could bring in possibly hotels and more business of different kinds. You could bring people in and jobs. It could be very stimulating for the economy."

Griffith said people who support this plan should contact their elected officials on all levels.
