OAK HILL, W.Va. (Jeff Morris) – Fayette County deputies have released the names of two women who were found at an Oak Hill residence with severe burns. They also said they are looking for two persons of interest in the investigation of the blaze.

Cheryl Ward, 28, of Oak Hill was pronounced dead at Cabell Huntington Hospital on Monday, according to a news release from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. Ward was found about 2 a.m. Sunday along with Jamie Castillo, 39, at a residence on Gatewood Road. The sheriff’s office said Castillo, who is originally from Ohio, remains in critical condition.

Investigators said they believe at least one of the two female victims was known to the occupants of the residence.

The fire is believed to have started in the living room where the two female victims were found. No exact cause has been determined, but the fire and arson unit of the sheriff’s office and the state Fire Marshals Office continue to investigate.

Investigators have begun to focus on two individuals who have been described as persons of interest in connection with the investigation. Witnesses are being sought who may have seen two white males walking in the area of East Main Street near the intersection with Gatewood Road in Oak Hill and the Summerlee Road areas between the Country Corner and the Owl’s Club in Oak Hill between 11 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

One of the men is described as a white male in his mid-50s, short and stocky, with short salt-and-pepper hair and a closely trimmed salt-and-pepper mustache. The second male is described as a white male, in his early 20s, and short and slender.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 304-574-4216.
