APPLE GROVE, W.Va. (Katelyn Sykes) – Mason County deputies said a man has been charged in connection with a shooting that occurred as the result of an apparent domestic dispute.

Michael Allen Kenney, 43, of Apple Grove was charged with malicious wounding after he allegedly shot Donald McGhee II, 35, of Winfield in the chest, according to a news release from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting happened about 11 am. On Valley Drive in Apple Grove. Deputies believe it was a domestic incident involving the victim and his ex-girlfriend.

McGhee was being treated at a Huntington hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Deputies said other charges are pending.

APPLE GROVE, W.Va. (Martin Hicks, Troy Morgan) -- Mason County sheriff's deputies and state troopers said they are getting conflicting stories about a domestic situation in the Apple Grove area.

Troopers said that a woman got into a fight with a man from a previous relationship. She then shot him in stomach and tried to rush him to the hospital.

Investigators said that witness testimonies at the scene were not adding up. They said that it is important to find the gun before it gets into the wrong hands.

"We do know that the victim was shot once in the stomach with a small caliber handgun, we figure a .22, and we are still trying to locate the weapon at this time," West Virginia State Police Sgt. T.S. Mills said.

The woman is currently in police custody.

APPLE GROVE, W.Va. -- Mason County sheriff's deputies and troopers are at the scene of a possible domestic situation in the Apple Grove area.

Mason County Sheriff Greg Powers said the emergency calls came in about 11:15 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. Monday and there were conflicting reports about the incident. The initial call to 911 said it could be domestic related. There were conflicting reports about what happened with one caller saying there was broken glass and another saying there were shots fired.

The incident occurred on Jerry's Run Road in the southern end of the county. Jerry's Run Road ties Route 2 and Route 35 together.

Powers said three deputies responded to the call, and several state troopers.
