HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (Dave Benton) -- The wild winter weather the area had the past few months left behind a lot of super-sized potholes all across our region.

Now a lot of neighborhood roads need paved. But there is something you can do to get the craters filled near your home.

Pete Gillespie is a Huntington city councilman and said calling the member of council who represents your district can help get the job done.

"it does hold more weight. Certainly, you've always got the one who says this or that needs to be done. If you have a stretch of people that say, 'Yeah, our road really needs it,' it really holds more weight," Gillespie said.

Council will vote on a $45 million spending plan Monday night. Of that amount, $1 million would be used for paving. Mayor Steve Williams needs a priority list of the roads in need of repair in the next few weeks from council.

Once a constituent calls a council member to get a road paved, that information is passed on to the city clerk and ultimately to the mayor.

Mike Owens is a Huntington resident and said making that call is a good idea.

"I haven't, but very well may in the future," Owens said. "We've got some potholes where I live on Richwood Road and it's getting a little rough there."

The budget is expected to pass at Monday night's meeting. The deadline to turn it into the state is three days away. But council will have the option to make revisions in the next few months.
