Frame Road Reopens After Fatal Pedestrian Accident

ELKVIEW, W.Va. (Jeff Morris, Bob Aaron) -- The 1500 block of Frame Road in the Elkview area has reopened after a fatal pedestrian accident.

The incident happened about 8 a.m. Monday. Deputies said Ashli Whitehair, 21, of Elkview was struck and killed by a pickup truck after she had gotten off a KRT bus.




ELKVIEW, W.Va. (Jeff Morris) – Kanawha County deputies have released the name of a woman who was hit and killed by a truck in the Elkview area moments after she had gotten off a KRT bus.

Ashli Whitehair, 21, of Elkview was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that occurred about 8 a.m. on Frame Road in the Elkview area, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.

Callers told Metro 911 that the pickup truck struck the woman about 8 a.m. near the entrance to the Elk Crossings Apartment complex. The truck was traveling east, toward U.S. Route 119. The pedestrian had just exited a KRT when she was struck by a full-size Dodge pickup truck, deputies said.

The crash is being investigated by the sheriff’s office. A reconstruction expert has been assigned the case and was on scene taking measurements, interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence. The roadway has been closed since first responders arrived, and was still closed at 10:50 a.m.

Deputies said investigators will look at a multitude of factors that may have played a role in the incident, including driver error, pedestrian error, speed, mechanical failure and the environment.

The accident happened about 8 a.m. on Frame Road. The 1500 block of Frame Road remained closed after the wreck while emergency crews cleared debris from the roadway.

Deputies said the 21-year-old woman had just gotten off the bus and heading toward an apartment complex when she was struck. The sun was very bright and low to the horizon when the accident occurred and that may have been a contributing factor, deputies said.




ELKVIEW, W.Va. (Katelyn Sykes) -- Emergency officials are currently on the scene of a fatal auto-pedestrian accident in Elkview.

911 officials said the call came in just before 8 a.m. Monday on Frame Road.

The 1500 block of Frame Road is currently closed while crews are on the scene. The Pinch Volunteer Fire Department is urging people to stay away from the area until further notice.
