CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Kennie Bass) - The New Orleans Saints will be splitting their training camp time between their home in the bayou and The Greenbrier.

Resort owner Jim Justice said the Saints will be training in West Virginia in late July and early August, preparing for the 2014 NFL season.

"It all started with Sean Payton coming to the Greenbrier caddying for Ryan Palmer," Jim Justice, owner of The Greenbrier, said. "Fell in love with The Greenbrier, fell in love with the people of West Virginia really. The Saints looked at maybe moving their training camp to a cooler climate, then we just started putting it all together. A lot of work, a lotta, lotta work."

Justice said he'll build three practice fields, two consisting of natural turf and one of synthetic grass. He'll also construct a 55,000 square foot multi-purpose building. It will house the Saints' meeting, weight and locker rooms, training and physical therapy facilities and kitchen and dining areas.

"It's tourism, it's jobs it's hope," Justice said. "It's something that West Virginia deserves. Why do we always have to drive four and eight hours and go all over the place and spend our money in other states? This way our people can enjoy this and enjoy this here and the admission fee is zero."

Former NFL all-pro Carl Lee spent the last of his 12 seasons in the league with the Saints. He said the team will have a major impact on West Virginia.

"Unless you've been to a camp you have no idea how crazy those camps are," Lee said. "I think the impact of it is going to be unbelievable. I just think people will have a great time, I think it will be great for West Virginia. I give Jim Justice a big thumbs man because I think this is a big deal."

Lee adds The Greenbrier represents a major upgrade in the team's practice facilities and preparations for the season.

"To be honest their practice facility in Metairie (Louisiana) was probably the worst I had ever seen," Lee said. "Probably one of the worst in the league. It would make sense to me that they would want to change that environment."
