CROSS LANES, W.Va. (Jeff Morris) – Kanawha County deputies said Monday one driver likely will face charges following a head-on crash in Cross Lanes that trapped both drivers in their vehicles until they could be removed by emergency crews.
The accident happened about 6:20 a.m. Monday in the 4900 block of Big Tyler Road, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said a Buick sport utility vehicle attempted to pass an uninvolved vehicle in a no-passing zone while driving toward Dunbar. A Ford Explorer was being driven by a 16-year-old driver toward Cross Lanes. The Buick struck the Ford in a head-on collision, the release said. The uninvolved vehicle’s driver witnessed the crash.
Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles until they were removed by members of the Tyler Mountain Volunteer and Institute volunteer Fire departments. Both drivers were then transported to the hospital by Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority personnel with non-life threatening, but serious, injuries.
Deputies said the driver of the Buick will likely face criminal charges in the matter. The crash is being investigated by Cpl. J. A. Ratliff of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.

The head-on accident happened about 6:20 a.m. in the 4900 block of Big Tyler Road.
Deputies said a paramedic described the condition of the women injured in the accident as serious but not critical. They were transported to a local hospital. The names of the injured were not available. A door on one of the vehicles had to be cut off to remove one of the victims.

Metro 911 reported the 4900 block of the road reopened about 8:25 a.m. Monday. The accident occurred about 6:20 a.m.
