MADISON, W.Va. (Sean Delancey) -- A Midget League football coach in Boone County has been arrested, accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl for three years.
Police said Dustin Crupe, the head football coach of Panthers Midget League Football began an an online relationship with the girl when she was 11, and that it eventually became physical.
People in the neighborhood said they were shocked.
Jenni McCloud is the president of the Panthers.
"He will never be a part of our league again," she said of Crupe.
She worked closely with the man who coached their team, who police said sexually assaulted a child.
"Everyone knows this person,” she said. “Everyone liked this person. Everybody felt safe with this person."
Police arrested Crupe Saturday and charged him with 1st degree sexual assault and soliciting a minor.
Police said Crupe solicited the girl over the Internet through email, and, over a three-year relationship, he became physical.
McCloud said she hopes no other children were harmed.
"My biggest concern is that there isn't anyone else,” she said. “And that if there is anyone else, they will come forward and say something,"
Boone County Chief Deputy Chad Barker said anyone in the case, specifically relating to Crupe, needs to call police immediately.
McCloud said, with Crupe off the streets, she wants to makes sure that kids playing football are safe and that Crupe just fell through the cracks.
"We do background checks on everyone, and try to keep the kids as safe as possible,” she said. “We never knew anything like this was going on."
Crupe was being held in the Southwestern Regional Jail on a $45,000 bond.
DANVILLE, W.Va. (Kera Mashek) -- A Midget League football coach from Boone County is facing criminal charges for allegedly carrying on an inappropriate relationship with a young girl.
Dustin Crupe, 35, is charged with both first and third degree sexual assault and soliciting a minor online.
He was arrested Saturday after a months-long investigation by the Boone County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said Crupe started abusing the girl when she was just 11 years old. She is now 14.
Crupe has served as a coach of Midget League Football in Danville.
