BALTIMORE (Leslie Rubin, Heath Harrison, AP) -- Police in Baltimore said Friday that there is no evidence that a missing Maryland girl and her father have gone to West Virginia or have been in the state.

A nationwide Amber Alert was issued Thursday for Caitlyn Virts, 11, who police believe was abducted by her father, Timothy Virts, 38.

Baltimore County Police have obtained an arrest warrant for him in connection with the death investigation of the girl’s mother, Bobbie Jo Cortez.

On Thursday morning, police discovered the body of Cortez at her home in the 3100 block of Ardee Way in Dundalk. Police said Cortez was cut multiple times in the upper body. Her body was sent to the state medical examiner for autopsy results.

Police spokeswoman Elise Armacost said Caitlyn's twin sister, Cortez's young son and two adults were living at the home. She said Timothy Virts also had been staying there for the past several weeks.

Maryland State Police sent an Amber Alert for Caitlyn about 90 minutes after Cortez's body was found and a second Amber Alert was later issued in West Virginia.

Baltimore police said it's reasonable to assume Virts left Maryland. Detectives said they are not sure exactly what time Virts took his daughter on Thursday.

While police do not believe Timothy Virts is in West Virginia, he did reside in the state at one point. State police were still actively searching for him on Friday, along with the FBI and United State Marshal Service, according to Lt. Michael Baylous.

"McDowell County and Preston County of course were two areas that we were focusing on, but you can't become to the point to where you're so focused on those two areas that you don't consider he could be anywhere in the state," Baylous said.

Eyewitness News confirmed with a Save-A-Lot manager in Welch that Timothy Virts worked at the store from October 2012 to June 2013 as a butcher.

Timothy Virts is 6 feet, 3 inches tall and 280 pounds. The man and his daughter are reportedly in a 1999 black Dodge Durango with Maryland tags: 5AJ4458. Caitlyn Virts is 5 feet tall and 80 pounds. Police said Caitlyn may have had on glasses.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
