ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (Leslie Rubin) -- New details came to light Thursday in the case against a daughter accused of killing her own mother, as investigators revealed how they believe the mother was killed.

It was a rather bizarre hearing in the murder case against Jessica Woods, 36. She never entered the courtoom, waiving her right to appear at the hearing, but still wanting the hearing to take place, as detectives laid out the chilling details they said quickly unraveled after they found her mother's body hidden in a shed.

Woods was arrested last Monday, after Kanawha County deputies said she killed her mother, Eva Woods, 59.

At her preliminary hearing Thursday, she waived her right to appear, leaving prosecutors and her defense attorney to have the hearing without the woman at the center of the case in the courtroom. Investigators said Woods indicated on the day of the arrest that she didn't want to be on television.

But it was the concern of Eva's father that his daughter hadn't been seen that first launched the investigation. Detectives questioned Jessica and becoming suspicious of her when she refused to let them in a locked shed behind the home, located just outside St. Albans city limits.

Armed with a search warrant the next time they went to the home, detectives said they found Eva Wood's body in the shed beside a partially dug grave. They said Jessica Woods later admitted she killed her mother after getting out of jail, allegedly using two extension cords to strangle her, and an object to hit her in the head.

Her attorney said during the hearing she may be potentially mentally ill, doesn't believe there was premeditation and asked the case be dismissed.

Magistrate Jack Pauley disagreed, sending the case to circuit court.
