HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (Darrah Wilcox) -- No matter where you are, you can't escape them.

Potholes are popping up everywhere after months of cold, wet weather.

"It's all over, especially on the brick roads," Jacob Collins said. "Behind my house, in the alley, there's one that's about four feet wide and a foot deep and another two feet long. I've seen cars actually get stuck in it."

On Eighth Avenue, cars veer into the other lane to avoid one deep pothole. A similar spot is also diverting drivers on Adams Avenue in west Huntington.

David Brumfield said it's about the deepest one he's seen.

"It's basically the only way I travel to work," he said, explaining the pothole is hard to avoid. "I try to get into the next lane if I can. There's no way to go over them slowly without tearing your vehicle up."

Huntington Mayor Steve Williams said they've done what they can so far.

"We know they're there. There's not a thing we can do about them right now except try to put a temporary patch on it, and then that gets kicked out, and we try to come back in and fix it again," he said.

He said they've spent over a million dollars each fiscal year for the last three years, and this year is no different.

"We'll start paving again this spring, just like we did last year, we'll do it a little earlier this year, because the roads are in such bad shape," Williams said.

In the meantime, keep an eye out and your patience handy.
