CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Bethany Simmons, Jeff Morris) -- West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, whose brother faces a drug charge, said Wednesday that he is "saddened" by his brother's actions.

"Today is a very difficult day for me and my family," Tomblin said in a prepared statement. "I am saddened by my brother's actions, and I'm disappointed in him, but I love him. My brother must be held accountable for his actions. Like everyone dealing with drug addiction, my brother needs help. I've said many times that drug addiction can affect any family and it has affected mine. I thank you for your prayers during this challenging time."

The governor's brother, Carl Tomblin, 50, of Chapmanville, Logan County, was charged Wednesday with illegal drug distribution, U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin's Office said.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Bethany Simmons) - The brother of West Virginia's governor faces a drug charge.

Carl Tomblin, 50, of Chapmanville, Logan County, was charged Wednesday with illegal drug distribution, U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin's Office said. The U.S. Attorney's Office said that Carl David Tomblin is the brother of West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin.

The alleged incident happened in early December 2013, according to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court of the Southern District of West Virginia.

The complaint states that Tomblin had "knowingly and intentionally distributed a quantity of oxymorphone, a schedule II controlled substance." Oxymorphone is a prescription narcotic that treats moderate to severe pain.

The investigation that led to the charge was conducted by the U.S. 119 Task Force and the West Virginia State Police.
