PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (Chris Williams) --
The Putnam County Park was once the place to be for people on the Northside of Putnam County, but it's lost its glamor over the years.

"My son played ball down here, and the field wasn't kept at all. We had grass infields, grassy fences,” said Eleanor resident Jodie Jividen.

After taking over the park from the Putnam County Parks and rec board, the city of Eleanor is hoping to turn that around. The city now maintains the 200 acre park, and their first two projects are going to be the baseball fields and pool.

"Personally, I'd like to see us add a few slides. Maybe even an extension of a pool, or a water park of some type," said Eleanor Maintenance Worker Michael May.

May said taking over the park is huge for the city because it's where their families go to have fun, and it will also bring in money for the city.

"There is going to be some money that’s going to have to be thrown into it, we understand, but there is also going to be some rentals of shelters, and the pool will draw some money,” May added.

The Putnam County Fairgrounds are also in the park, and May said that land is also going to be upgraded. People in Eleanor are excited for the potential opportunities, and said the park will look different once it's done.

"It will, and I know they'll do a good job because they do a good job around the city,” said Jividen.
