CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Leslie Rubin) -- The wife of a man murdered at the Kanawha Mall continues to search for closure to the now decade old cold case.

"He always made sure we had what we needed," Amy Workman says while looking through pictures of her husband, James Workman.

On Tuesday, ten years will have passed since Workman, 28, was murdered, but she says the pain is with her today just as much as it was the day he died.

February 25, 2004 the last time she saw her husband. Workman, who worked as a janitor at the Kanawha Mall in Charleston, was taking a smoke break outside when he was shot in the chest with a silver handgun.

On the way to the hospital, Workman was able to tell police that a white man with a beard, driving a dark gray or purple car pulled up, identified himself as a private investigator, and then shot him. He died on the operating table.

"I couldn't deal, still to this day I've never grieved. I just can't. I know there's somebody out there that knows why and who. I just beg somebody to please tell, please," Amy Workman says.

Police aren't able to say if Workman was a random victim, or if he was deliberately attacked.

"There are differing theories in this particular homicide case, a couple of them we still actually look at and they have credibility but we do not have a solid case against anyone at this point," says Lt. Steve Cooper, Chief of Detectives with the Charleston Police Department.

Amy Workman says she's struggled for ten long years not knowing who murdered her husband, or why anyone wanted him dead. She says she was never able to remarry, and hopes to not go to her grave still desperate for closure.

If you have any information about the case, call Charleston detectives at 304-348-6480.
