BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. (Sean Delancey) -- Putnam County parents who are facing child neglect charges in connection to their pregnant 13-year-old daughter are speaking out from behind bars.

Wendell and Geneva Rose were both charged with child neglect resulting in serious bodily harm. The two are accused of allowing Justin Vance, 28, stay at the couple's home and sleep in the bed with the girl, deputies said. Deputies said Vance and the girl met at the Special Olympics. The girl is developmentally disabled.

The Roses are being held at the Western Regional Jail where they claimed they also are victims.

"We didn't know this was going to happen. We didn't know he was going to take advantage of our daughter and get her pregnant," Geneva Rose said.

The two claimed they are angry and disgusted that they are charged with a crime in which they believe they had no role. They claim they allowed Vance to stay at the home in exchange for some help paying bills.

Wendell Rose said he feels betrayed "because we extended a hand to somebody who needed it. Had I known that he had actually done something, we would be doing a totally different kind of interview."

Wendell said he was told by several people that something was allegedly going on between Vance and his daughter, but he thought it was only gossip.

The couple said the girl wants to keep the baby and has a name picked out.

Vance was charged with first-degree sexual assault and is being held at the Western Regional Jail.
