WYTHEVILLE, Va. (Heath Harrison) – Jackie Oblinger, a fixture on West Virginia television in its early days died Friday. She was 85.

Starting in radio, Oblinger moved to television, where her career spanned 28 years, including work in Bluefield and at WCHS in Charleston.

She hosted “Woman's Page,” one of the first local talk programs geared to female viewers, for WCHS, starting in the 1960s. Over the course of her television career, she conducted live interviews with a number of notable figures, including Jackie Kennedy, Liberace, Hubert Humphrey, Lawrence Welk and Johnny Mathis. She retired from WCHS in 1977.

If you had a good time on the air, it would be contagious," she told the Charleston Daily Mail in a 1992 interview. "That's why the show lasted so long. I just held it together and let other people shine."

Oblinger later served as director of career development at her alma matter of Bluefield College in Virginia. She also taught at West Virginia Career College in Charleston.

Oblinger was recognized for her pioneering work in television by the West Virginia Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

A service to celebrate her life will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bluefield, W.Va. Burial will be in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Visitation is set for Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Va.
