CLENDENIN, W.Va. (Bob Aaron, Jeff Morris) -- Emergency crews were able to remove a woman from a vehicle in Clendenin Friday morning after she struck a power pole and electrical lines came down on her vehicle. The accident interrupted elecetric service to more than 3,000 people and blocked Spencer Road most of the day. Repairs were completed this afternoon and the road reopened.

Susan Smith of Clendenin hit the pole with her sport utility vehicle about 8 a.m. Emergency crews said Smith was traveling toward Clendenin when her vehicle went off the roadway into a snowbank, striking the pole and bringing down electric lines on the SUV. Smith was told to remain in the vehicle until crews determined that the lines were not live and she would not be in any danger.

She was transported to the hospital following the accident, but she was talking to emergency crews and her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Power was knocked out to about 3,000 customers in Roane and Kanawha counties.
Appalachian Power crews had the road closed until the pole could be replaced. A 34,500 volt line had landed on the car.

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office and the Clendenin Volunteer Fire Department responded to the accident.
