WINFIELD, W.Va. (Rick Lord, Bethany Simmons) -- Neighbors on the East End of Charleston met Tuesday to discuss their concerns about the water crisis and hear from West Virginia American Water.

The East End Community Association hosted the meeting and the spokeswoman for the water company was on hand to answer questions.

While health and safety remain serious concerns, many people also had questions about their water bills.

West Virginia American Water is issuing a $10 credit, but many said the cost of this crisis far exceeds that.

The Rev. Melvin Hoover said people changed filters, replaced water heaters, had to drive to get water, maybe even have medical bills associated with the water situation and it's not fair.

"It's almost an insult to say it's inadequate. I would not pay for poison water; we should not have to pay for that period," Hoover said.

Laura Jordan with the water company said the credit is to cover the cost of the additional water used for flushing. She also said people can file claims for anything beyond that by calling their consumer hotline.
