WINIFREDE, W.Va. (Chris Williams) -- The creek in Winifrede is normally pretty clear, but when people looked out their windows this morning, it was solid black.

"It's scary. I mean with all the water crisis that’s been going on...It's just like one more thing," said Leah Hill, who lives on the creek.

Hill has lived in Winifrede her entire life, and says somebody needs to be held accountable for the spill that happened early Tuesday morning.

"Somebody needs to take care of it,” added Hill. “That’s what their job is, to make sure everybody has safe drinking water."

Chris McCormick used to work at Kanawha Eagle Prep Plant, where the spill happened, and says he was shocked to see creek filled with black water.

"Slurry pipe is an inch and a half thick,” said former plant worker Chris McCormick. “The only way it coulda busted, unless it bused with at a bond, is if they hit it with something."

McCormick says the amount of slurry that spilled out was probably significant because they have certain things in place to keep a leak from happening.

"They got retention ponds, and they got places to catch it and sludge ponds,” added McCormick. That’s just really surprising; it must have really overwhelmed everything."

Now hill wants answers and hopes people in Winifrede aren't kept in the dark about what happened.
