HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (Dan Matics) -- The 13 year-old girl who was hit by a car Friday in the intersection of 10th Street and 9th Avenue, is now out of the hospital, her stepfather said Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Nancy Mathis, the person who police charged in connection with hitting her, is out on recognizance bond to the frustration of the victim's family.

"I'm angry," the girl's stepfather, who wants his family to remain unidentified, said. "When I saw it, it just broke my heart that someone would do something like this and not care."

He said almost every bone in her face is broken and she's having her mouth wired shut for five weeks to re-set her face.

The crash happened last Friday around 7 a.m. as the girl was at a crosswalk.
Captain Hank Dial, of Huntington Police, said Mathis hit the girl with enough force to flip her over the car, where she landed 20 feet away.

Dial said Mathis then ran two red lights while fleeing the scene to where she works at a preschool located at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church.

A worker at the preschool said Mathis was no longer working there as of Wednesday.

Eyewitness News went to Mathis' home, but a person said she had nothing to say at this time.

"If she's out on bond, and hitting a child, I don't think the bond was set high enough," The girls stepfather said. "I don't think justice was served right there."
