CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Chris Williams) -- Cars travel up and down Route 60 all day long. Some people in St. Albans use the road several times a day, and potholes are starting to pop up and surprise them.

“It was raining, and I couldn’t see that there was holes there, and I bent one of my rims,” worried motorist Steven Christensen said.

Christensen drives the road several times a day, and said the pothole he hit was about a foot and a half deep, and 20 to 30 feet long.

“Now it’s getting to the point where someone is going to get killed because of this pothole,” Christensen added.

DOT crews showed up Thursday morning to patch the problem area on Route 60, but the DOT says any repair this time of year is only temporary.

“It will last as long as it lasts,” DOT spokesperson Carrie Bly said. “Sometimes we have to keep coming back every day or every week to patch that up.”

Bly said there are a lot of holes in the road, and is asking for the public to be patient while crews fix them. However, it’s not their primary concern during the winter months.

“Our main focus of this season is snow removal and ice control,” Bly added. “That’s our first priority.”

Christensen said he wants the DOT to do more than just patch the holes. He wants them to shut down the lane down.

“I’ll be willing to stand out here and direct traffic myself before someone gets killed,” he said.

If you have a problem with potholes, you can contact the DOT on their Public Assistance Line at 1-800-642-9292.
