Police Say Man, Juvenile Charged In St. Albans Burglary

ST. ALBANS, W.Va. – St. Albans police said a man and a juvenile were arrested on a daytime burglary charge after an incident in which the juvenile allegedly fired a shot at a resident in a neighborhood.

Craig A. Scott, 24, of St. Albans and a 16-year-old juvenile were arrested Monday, according to a news release from the St. Albans Police Department.

Police said about 8:30 a.m. Monday officers responded to a report of a daytime burglary and gunshots being fired in the area of the 700 block of Spring Street. Officers arrived to speak with a man who said he discovered that his neighbor’s house had been broken into. He said he became suspicious when he watched two males walk into his neighbor’s yard. When he went to investigate, he found a door had been forced open. The man said he saw the suspects leave, and when he followed them, one turned and fired one shot from a handgun in his direction.

When police arrived, officers were immediately directed by the witness to the footprints in the freshly fallen snow. Officers followed the footprints to a residence in the 700 block of Cunningham Street on the other side of the alley. Through a window, officers were able to see a male hide some item under a chair, police said. Police said two males in the home were secured while a search warrant was obtained.

Acting on the search warrant, officers found a 22 revolver under the chair. They also found a laptop computer, other electronics and checks belonging to the victim, police said.

Police said Scott and the juvenile were charged with daytime burglary. The juvenile, who the witness said fired the shot, also was charged with wanton endangerment. Scott was taken to Kanawha County Magistrate Court for arraignment. The juvenile will face a detention hearing
