Charleston, W.Va. (Bethany Simmons, Doug Harlow, Katelyn Sykes) -- Icy roadways were making for dangerous road conditions Monday as motorists traveled across the region.

Meteorologist Doug Harlow said much of the Eyewitness News viewing area saw sleet and freezing rain early Monday.

Kanawha Metro 911 said more than 25 accidents were reported between 8 a.m. and about 9:15 a.m. Monday. In one of those wrecks, a vehicle was on its side on Hickory Road off Corridor G in Charleston after striking a residence, an emergency dispatcher said. An emergency dispatcher said no injuries were reported.

Snow moved into the Huntington area about 6 a.m. and was expected to turn to snow in Charleston by 7 a.m. A couple of inches of snow was expected to fall quickly, making for slushy roads.

Harlow forecast the heaviest snow, near a 12 inches possible in Athens, Parkersburg and interior Ohio. Areas north of Clarksburg, such as Morgantown, were looking at 10 inches or more.

The latest round of winter weather forced schools across the state to close Monday. Read more about those closings here.

Meanwhile, high water was reported in front of the Capitol along Kanawha Boulevard in Charleston. Rain left a puddle at least 2 inches deep across four lanes in that area. Another high water situation was reported Monday in the 800 block of Washington Street in Charleston.

Motorists were being advised to use extreme caution if they had to travel Monday.
