CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Heath Harrison) --A conservative political advocacy group is set to get more active in West Virginia politics this week.

Americans for Prosperity, WV will be unveiling a TV spot to run in the state's 3rd Congressional District, in which the group says it will put pressure on U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall, D-W.Va., to “stand up for West Virginians” against the Affordable Care Act.

The group is the local chapter of Americans For Prosperity, a national organization headquartered in Arlington, Va. and founded with support from David H. Koch and Charles Koch, of Koch Industries. The billionaire brothers are known for their financial support of conservative causes nationally.

As a 501(c)(4) group, Americans for Prosperity is not required to disclose its donors. It can advocate on political issues, but can not endorse or advocate on behalf of specific candidates.

The group will be celebrating the launch of its state chapter with an event in Charleston on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Marriott. The group has an event scheduled for Beckley on Monday.

Rahall, who has served as the district's representative since 1977, is running for reelection to Congress in 2014. He is expected to face Republican state Sen. Evan Jenkins in the general election. Jenkins switched his political affiliation from Democrat to Republican in 2013 in preparation for a run.
