SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va (Katy Brown) -- Life without tap water is something many are starting to get used to.

Almost a month into the water crisis, Eric Coleman and his family have found themselves living life a little differently.

"We're literally camping indoors," Coleman said.

West Virginia American Water was working over the weekend to repair several water main breaks in the South Charleston area and put over 1,500 customers under a boil water advisory.

But the Coleman's can't boil their water because, for them and many others in South Charleston, they simply don't have water at all .

Coleman said the water was off one day, came back on for a couple hours, then went back off.

"We saw a boil water advisories on the news," Coleman said. "There's no water to boil."

Coleman found ways around this water mess.

For cooking and cleaning, the family uses five-gallon bottles, and then they refill them with tap water just so they can flush the toilet when the water's off.

Bottles of water are used for the every day things, like brushing teeth, watering the dog, and of course for the morning coffee.

And although the Coleman's can get things done, it's not without some frustration.

"Between the cost, the frustration, the long term effects, we don't know. The uncertainty is the most frustrating," Coleman said.

Uncertainty that has led Coleman to make a strong decision. He said he and his family will not be drinking the tap water any time soon.

Coleman and his neighbors have tried contacting West Virginia American Water for answers. Eyewitness News also called and left a message, but have yet to have calls returned.
