CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Kera Mashek) -- A new report from the Charleston Gazette finds the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection never reviewed pollution prevention plans from Freedom Industries.

That plan was submitted long before the Jan. 9 chemical spill at Freedom's tank farm in Charleston, where a tank leaked and contaminated drinking water for 300,000 people.

Under a DEP-approved permit for the site, Freedom was required to prepare storm water pollution and groundwater protection plans.

But when the Gazette got copies of documents from the DEP, neither plan was among documents in Freedom's file.

It raises more questions about whether the DEP used all its available tools to prevent the Freedom spill.

DEP records since the spill are not being released, as they are part of an ongoing investigation.
